The European Space Agency (ESA) and European Geosciences Union (EGU) have launched an award for excellence in Earth observation.
New technologies such as big data and machine learning are transforming Earth observation. The joint ESA-EGU award recognizes and honors individual scientists or teams who have contributed to the innovative use of Earth observation with a focus on the use of European datasets.
Josef Aschbacher, director of Earth observation programs, ESA, said advancing Earth science is a core use of Earth observation and is fundamental to everyday applications.
He said, “I am extremely pleased to announce this upcoming award. Together with the European Geosciences Union, we are not only looking for excellence, but also innovation, and also hope to honor those at the start of their careers.”
