The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is looking for a technology partner to design and build the Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC).
The center will create the world’s most accurate and reliable operational weather forecast model.
Partners need a proven expertise in software engineering, software infrastructure development and delivering support services to government, academic and industry research scientists.
Neil Jacobs, PhD, acting NOAA administrator, said, “Through EPIC, the USA has a unique opportunity to harness the talents of the most brilliant modelers in the world to advance operational global numerical weather prediction. Advancing our operational weather modeling capability will improve forecasts and lead to more resilient communities.”
EPIC is a joint effort across the Weather Enterprise to improve operational modeling by making it easier for developers to collaborate using common modeling infrastructure to improve weather models.
A request for proposals was issued today (Monday, March 23) and applicants have until May 11 to submit proposals.
