The China Meteorological Administration (CMA) has implemented two AI-powered echo forecasting systems nationwide.
AI-powered weather forecasting
The systems, CMA-AIM-Nowcast-Fenglei version 1.0 and CMA-AIM-GFS-Fengqing version 1.0, were developed by the National Meteorological Centre of China and Tsinghua University. Before implementation, they were carefully evaluated to determine if they were fit for operation. The evaluation reportedly showed that the two systems are operating stably and have good forecasting performance.
Meteorological data
CMA-AIM-GFS-Fengqing version 1.0 can generate nine different types of meteorological forecasts. These data products will be added to the CMA’s meteorological big data cloud platform, the Tianqing system.
In related news, the CMA recently activated the Fengyun-4B satellite for the first time, alongside launching the L-band sounding system and deploying large-scale UAVs. Click here to read the full story.
