The Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California, San Diego, joined several research centers in the United States and India for the multi-year MISO-BoB (Monsoon Intra-seasonal Oscillations in the Tropical Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal) research program. Complex ocean-atmosphere physics in the Bay of Bengal, where monsoons develop, present one of the largest barriers to attempt to forecast when and where rains will fall during monsoon season.
