The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has released its Statement on the State of the Climate in 2019 report, highlighting challenges that the world is facing.
Working with national meteorological and hydrological services, industry experts, scientific institutions and UN agencies, the report highlights how rising temperatures and sea levels, and melting sea ice, is impacting the world. It confirms that 2019 was the second warmest year on record, 2010-19 was the warmest decade, and since the 1980s, each successive decade has been warmer than the one before.
The report was launched at a press conference given by Antonio Guterres, secretary-general of the UN, and Petteri Taalas, secretary-general of the WMO, at the UN’s headquarters on March 10.
