{"id":11965,"date":"2022-09-23T11:47:50","date_gmt":"2022-09-23T10:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.meteorologicaltechnologyinternational.com\/?p=11965"},"modified":"2022-09-23T11:47:50","modified_gmt":"2022-09-23T10:47:50","slug":"bom-undertakes-upgrades-to-darwin-and-hobart-weather-radars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.meteorologicaltechnologyinternational.com\/news\/radar\/bom-undertakes-upgrades-to-darwin-and-hobart-weather-radars.html","title":{"rendered":"BoM undertakes upgrades to Darwin and Hobart weather radars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residents and industry in Darwin, Australia, will now have access to more reliable and up-to-date weather information, after the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM)\u2019s completion of a significant upgrade to the Berrimah weather radar in Darwin, including installation of a new digital receiver and control system.<\/p>\n<p>Shenagh Gamble, BoM\u2019s hazard and preparedness manager – Northern Territory, said, \u201cAccurate and timely weather information is critical for local residents and industry, including aviation and resources, in and around Darwin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe upgrades to the weather radar will assist the community to track rain, wind, storms and severe weather with increased confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gamble said the radar upgrade will also help emergency services make informed time-critical decisions during severe weather events, helping to keep the community safe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe new technology in the Berrimah weather radar provides improved coverage for the north coast area of the Northern Territory \u2013 linking coverage between the Gove, Warruwi and Darwin (Berrimah) weather radars \u2013 and more comprehensive tropical cyclone and monsoon monitoring,\u201d added Gamble.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hobart weather radar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On October 3, BoM will commence upgrades to Hobart’s Mt Koonya weather radar, which will include installation of a new digital receiver and control system.
